The Dash8 was developed from the deHavilland Canada Dash 7, which featured extreme short take-off and landing (STOL) performance. However, the design of the Dash8 focused on improved cruise performance and low operational costs.
The -100 Series is a 37 passenger version that entered service in 1984. The original engine was the Pratt & Whitney PW120A, with later units using the PW121. Rated engine power is 1,800 shp.
